Fall is here! Our days will be packed learning about farms and harvest. And while we don’t dress up for Halloween at school, we’re going to squeeze in a week of Halloween fun: bats, spiders, and jack-o-lanterns…oh my! Preschool is the best!
This week, Teacher Leslie brought in pictures of her own sheep and lots of wool, feed, and hay for the children to touch (and smell!). We are planning to visit her farm in the Spring. In science, we carved a pumpkin to explore the seeds and flesh. We'll attempt to grown new pumpkins from the seeds!
Here’s a classic poem that you might hear your child reciting at home:
5 Little Pumpkins
Five little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said "My, it's getting late."
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don’t care."
The forth one said, "We’ll run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "It's just Halloween fun."
"Whooooo" went the wind.
And out went the light.
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of site.
Our trip to the Suyematsu Farm and Pumpkin Patch will be on Wednesday, October 15th. Children should be dressed for a day of rain (or shine)…and MUD! The Pre-K class will meet at school; the Preschool class will meet at the farm. Then we'll all meet up at the Farm to enjoy a field trip as one big BCNS family. Yay!
We will be making applesauce on Thursday, October 23rd (Pre-K) and Friday, October 24th (Preschool). Please let your child’s teacher know if you would like to help out with this fun project.
In the next few weeks, we will be sending home a Winter “check-in.” The check-in is a way to give you some feedback about what we're seeing in the classroom and also a chance to hear your thoughts about your child's preschool experience so far.
