March is storytelling month! Through books, poems, nursery rhymes, and other forms of text, we explore the components (beginning, middle, and end) and important features (characters, setting, etc.) of stories. In preparation for our Storytelling Shows, all three classes will work on a special project and write their own stories to share with families.
You are your child’s favorite storyteller! Through reading and oral storytelling, you help to enhance your child’s listening skills, introduce new vocabulary (including emotional vocabulary), and build curiosity and comprehension skills. Plus, storytelling is simply a great way to connect with your child!
Our playhouse this month is a space station, complete with jet packs and switchboards. A lot of great storytelling and imaginative play can be overheard in the playhouse this month. We encourage you to come in and check it out! Below is a poem we will be practicing once the space station is up and running:
Put on your spacesuit we’re
Climb around the rocket ship. We’re going to blast off soon.
Put on your helmet. Strap yourself in tight.
