March is storytelling month! Through books, poems, nursery rhymes, toys, and ART we explore the components (beginning, middle, and end) and important features (characters, setting, etc.) of stories. The preschool class will focus on retelling stories.
By using felt or magnet pieces, the children will have an active role discussing what happened in the story we just read. The Pre K class will take story telling a bit further by creating fairy houses. The children will dictate a story about their individual house.
The Kindergarteners will be writing and illustrating their own stories! As you can see there is a huge progression with writing in these first few years in school.
Speaking of stories, YOU are your child’s favorite storyteller! By reading with your child every day, you help to enhance your child’s listening skills, introduce new vocabulary, and build curiosity and comprehension skills.
